Firenze

Florence is fabulous! I was there a year ago today - a few photos from my visit - my sister was kind enough to let me tag along... This is a tiny block painting I bought of the Duomo by Maurizio Bomberini. I loved his little shop, his work is amazing and I wanted to buy everything!

We spent a huge amount of time at the carousel. Oslo and Indigo could not get enough...

There are lions everywhere - and tigers and bears, oh my...

We spent the afternoon at Fiesole - a divine garden with olives and cherry blossoms.

Oslo tip toes through the... buttercups...

What a little gentleman...

How glam is she? I was not totally sure about what they were conversing - but it looks like she is telling him off...

Hearts are my thing - I see them everywhere - though clearly this one I manufactured...

Let there be Light... : Bermuda Photographer

In the last few months I have been doing an enormous amount of searching for inspiration. I visit every London museum and gallery I can and have spent countless hours on the computer looking at the blogs and websites of other photographers. There are some really incredible images out there and some truly talented people.
I happened upon one of those talented people last week. Her name is
Kelly Moore and she is a photographer in Louisiana. So... on her blog today she posted some images using the sun, saying that she used to avoid it's light and preferred shooting in the shade or on cloudy days. She has created a little contest asking other photographers to post their sunny images and in a couple weeks she'll post her favorite. As I am not in the US, I would not have much use for the prize - but it sparked an interest to participate anyway. So I went through my photographs from the last eight months to have a look. There was a lot of sun. In Bermuda it is hard to avoid - it is so harsh though that I rarely use it directly; even in the shade, it creeps through or bounces off something. But here are a few of my favourites - they are mostly shot late in the day when it is golden and just yummy...

Cards and Albums

I have been designing cards and books for my clients for about a year. I worked for a publishing company for five years and along with doing the photography for a variety of magazines, I was the graphic designer for one of them. It has been a pleasure returning to design, particularly the books - to preserve the cherished memories from your wedding day or the wonderful moments from childhood. I am hoping that clients really think about having a book done from their wedding or portrait session as it is a great way to have the photographs accessible. Sadly in this digital age, our photographs often never come off the computer. It would also be helpful to know before the day if you might like to do a book as some of the images I shoot will be a little different. I'll shoot more details, textures and scenery and leave space for text, or plan spreads, making sure that the important parts not be too close to the binding. Click here to go to the website. And here are some pages from two of the books and a few cards...

Alana: Bermuda Potrait Photographer

I met Alana in July - she is just lovely and it was so nice to have a new friend in London. Sadly she had to go back to Australia in September. She just returned and after we had lunch on Saturday, I convinced her to spend the afternoon playing.
This is the front door of my little flat...

And the flat next door...

And the brick in the mews. I live behind a concert hall and we were serenaded by
violins and voices...

And back to the park for more daffodils. It was the most magnificent afternoon. When we started, we were alone, but we must have inspired passers by as soon there were about 15 other people taking pictures in this patch of flowers.

The trees are just beginning to flower. In a week or two it will be magical...
so probably more flower photos to come...

Happy Birthday Sacha! : Bermuda Photographer

Today is my sister's birthday. Living in London has been amazing but I really miss her and her adorable family - Ben, Oslo and Indigo. I did a shoot for them in November while I was briefly in Bermuda to shoot a couple weddings. Sacha has this groovy, vintage, velvet sofa and she thought it would be fun to have it in the garden. Here are a few of my favourites...

It was my first day home, so Oslo and Indigo kept leaping from the sofa and running over to hug me. My heart melted each time, though it did make getting group shots a little tricky.
