The Beach House - A Peek Inside

Kim Hughes of Designs for Living shares her latest project...
"At the end of 2013 I was lucky enough to land the job of decorating the inside of a gorgeous house that was being constructed over looking the South Shore. My brief was coastal but classy!
First up was the seven bathrooms where I chose a combination of glass, pebble floors and “wood” floors that were actually tile. Each bathroom had its own personality – and those that were ensuite tied into the colours and feel of each accompanying bedroom.

The two guest rooms each had a coastal feel – as though you were staying at a boutique hotel on a tropical island – shells, corals and local artworks.
The formal living room was done in a palette of creams and turquoise – not to compete with the stunning view from that room but rather compliment the colours that can be seen from the room.

The family room – where friends and family can chill and watch a large TV consists of a huge sectional with driftwood accessories and a large wall of family photos  - all done in black and white and mounted on canvases.

Instead of a formal dining room we created a games room – complete with a beachy feel Pool table, dart board and ping pong!
The upstairs bedrooms were each done to reflect the personalities of the family members that occupy them…. “ Hollywood” glam for their daughter and casual coastal for their son.

The master wing was all done in various neutrals with beaded trims and fringes on pillows to add to the elegance.

The entrance was the most fun to design – albeit a challenge with the change in ceiling heights in that area but I was very pleased with the result."
