Fandango

Each year I volunteer to photograph the outreach programmes for The Bermuda Festival of the Performing arts. I was in Moscow this year so sadly, I did miss a few. But this morning I stopped by the performance they gave for a full theatre of students. And this afternoon I watched them rehearse with a group of students that will be playing with them at their performance this evening.
There are still a few tickets available, so if you are not busy tonight, you really should go - the music was wonderful!!! Otherwise, they will be performing tomorrow night at St Peter's church.

Step Afrika - 2016 Bermuda Festival

The 2016 Bermuda Festival of The Performing Arts is underway and this morning I stopped by the Step Afrika Outreach at City Hall. The theatre was completely full with students from the island's schools. They were all upstanding and participating in the group's performance. 

The dancers were so full of energy and the performance was amazing! There are a few tickets left for both tonight's and tomorrow night's shows. You can get them here or at the box office.

Taking Flight

The Bermuda Festival of the Performing Arts is drawing to a close. The last six weeks have been packed with amazing performances, all carefully chosen to celebrate the festival's 40th anniversary.

I have had the pleasure of attending many of the performances and have enjoyed them all immensely. 

It was an honour to create the artwork to commemorate this year's festival and to work with Alexandra Mosher. There are some of her beautiful, sterling silver butterflies left, but they will only be available until the end of March.

And I still have some canvas and metal prints available too. These are limited edition and made to order. I am working on a 36x36 canvas now - she looks absolutely amazing in this size. The Schubert Ensemble

I stopped by City Hall today to watch the Outreach Programme by The Schubert Ensemble. They played a few pieces from their repertoire and chatted to the students about the music and their careers. I have attended about thirty of these events over the last few years and I find it interesting that children always ask how old the artists were when they started playing, acting, singing or dancing. It is such a simple question, but when the answers are generally between seven to ten, the students can relate. That tends to be the age they are now, so the timing of these outreach programmes are perfect. They come at the very moment a child is ready to discover a talent and begin to want to nurture it.

The music was beautiful and as described by the quartet today, it is like a conversation between their instruments. And their movements show this too; they sway to and from each other moved by the sound and the emotion of the composition.

La Traviata

Tonight Opera a la Carte begins their three night run of La Traviata as part of The Bermuda Festival. I have tickets for tomorrow night but stopped by yesterday to capture a few images of their dress rehearsal. I only stayed for a few minutes though as I did not want to spoil it for me... or for you...

It is sung in Italian though, so they do recommend having a read of the synopsis to fully enjoy the story. They do have some tickets left - online at bdatix.bm.
