The Turtle Project

On Thursday night I attended a lecture given by Jennifer Grey on the Bermuda Turtle Project at BUEI. It was wonderfully informative and inspired me to pop over to the Bermuda Aquarium to see the little creatures and shoot a few with my new GoPro camera. How cute are their little faces?

I have created a Monster!

Her name is Saturday... I was driving home last weekend and this wee thing was all by herself in the middle of the road. Oh... what was I supposed to do? I know there is a huge feral chicken problem, but the thought of her being run over or eaten by a rat or a cat was too much for me to bear. So I picked her up and here we are. She is so funny, and it is fascinating to see how much she is changing every day. She does this little yoga move where she slowly and gracefully picks up one foot and stretches it behind her. It cracks me up every time. But she is also a little menace... she likes to be held, or sit on my feet or my shoulder or my arm. And when left alone in her box she chirps, then squeals. So out she comes... Oh my, it is going to be a long summer...

SPCA

I have been volunteering for the SPCA; taking photographs of the cats that are up for adoption. They are absolutely adorable and simultaneously make me smile and break my heart.

Little Lola

I just adored this shoot! Lola is just adorable and has such a wonderfully animated little face. She is the pride and joy of her parents Marianne and Larry and they are a lovely little family. Lola was so sweet, and surprisingly, a fantastic model. "They" say never work with animals or children... well... "They" have never met Lola! We had a wonderful time - the light was gorgeous and she was a perfect subject... Thank you for making me smile...

Afternoon at the Aquarium

My sister photographed a wedding at the Aquarium a few weeks ago and she showed me a shot she'd taken of the couple in front of the Northrock tank - but it somehow looked as though the fish were in front of them swimming towards them. It is one of the coolest wedding pictures ever! A few days later, the Aquarium contacted me to ask if they could carry my fine art note cards in their gift shop. I happily agreed and inspired by said wedding pic, asked if I could take some photographs of the fish with a view to perhaps doing a line of cards specially for the Aquarium. They thought that would be a lovely idea. So... I spent Thursday afternoon in awe of all the magical sparkle of scales and the graceful way fish speed through the water or remain completely still and just sway gently with the motion of the bubbles. The Aquarium was established in 1926 originally as a tourist attraction, but has since broadened to include environmental research, education and conservation.
Here are a few of my favourites...
